The African American History Memorial in Austin, TX is on the Capitol grounds and depicts the history of African Americans in the State of Texas. It’s a large installation that includes many striking faces.
For me, the expressions were especially moving: intelligent faces that show personality, wisdom, beauty–I wanted to know these people and learn from them.
I spent a long time looking at each face, taking pictures of many individuals.
The artist, Ed Dwight, created a stunning installation that is worthy of such a place of honor. Visiting this piece will be high on my list for my next trip to Austin.
